Description

The Laura Plantation is a restored historic Louisiana Creole plantation on the banks of the Mississippi River in Louisiana, with 200 years of history. Through intimate, personal stories, delve deep into the lives of the 4 generations of Creoles, both free and enslaved, and explore the complex and misunderstood history of the people, language, culture, and social contexts of Louisiana’s Great River Road in the tumultuous years before, during, and following the American Civil War. Step inside the austere interior of a slave cabin from the 1840s, and see the stark contrast to the parlors and rooms in the Big House. There's an eye-opening exhibition on the working conditions of the enslaved community who also lived here.
